Setting intentions can be a powerful tool for trauma repair by allowing us to tap into some of our most healing attributes: desire and agency.

However, the ways in which we attempt to fulfill our intentions are often fueled by the same shame, urgency, and scarcity that created our trauma patterns in the first place. When faced with the enduring challenge of pursuing our heart’s desire, we often find ourselves working harder, when what we really need is to feel safer.
What if we set our intentions not as a pass-fail assignment reflecting our worth as individuals, but instead as an invitation into a process of curiosity and compassion in which we can tend to our deeper wounds, and offer ourselves the witness, support, and care that can tackle our trauma patterns at their root? The Chariot, the card of the year for 2023, is a wonderful ally when working with intentions. Fanny Priest (she/her) is a queer witch, trauma and grief coach, and a reluctant expert on discomfort. She helps healers, feelers, queers, and creatives repair attachment trauma so they can reclaim safety in the relationship with their bodies, feelings, and needs. She believes that trauma and grief work are the necessary foundation to accessing the pleasure that is our birthright, and building a just and sustainable world for all bodies.
